What's New

* May 2008: MANG SUAR CAN WALK! Mang Suar is a 15 year old girl. She came in when she was 10. Her mother carried her around. She could sit, but not crawl, stand ore walk. We promised to her that we will let her walk. It took us 4,5 years, but suar is able to walk now! Her parents are so happy, they will make a extra ceremony for her and the foundation!

*May 2008: The project 'the happy cow' is taking the children from the G group out from there houses. These children are physical handicapped and mentally. They do not come out of there house, and do not know anything else then their own house. We want to give them some more love, and show them there is more! This month we took them to horse riding, the hot springs, we visit them in their house, and took them to the beach. Marjanne and Paola run this project.
Paola thanks for the pictures, Martin thank you for letting the high 5 children use your horses!

* May 2008: Today we started with the High 5 class. High 5 has helped a lot of children to a more mobile live, we helped children that could not walk, to running! But a lot of these children have a low IQ, they can not keep up with there friends in a 'normal school'. They drop out. We want to help those children and give them a change to education! They will learn how to read and write, and much more! Today 12 may Novi, Edi and Dian started in the High 5 Class. If all goes well we plan to give a lot of other children the same change!

* Mei 2008: An intensive program for Ketut. Ketut is a sweet boy that lives in Denpasar. He came with us through lilianefonds. Fam van Erp brought him for a consult to the foundation. At the consult we said that he will be able to walk within three months if he does the intensive program. He comes five days a week, two times a day for two hours. The progress is great. He is here now for two months, and from moving on his bump he can now walk on one hand! We will keep you informed!

* April 2008: The girls LiKaSi, 3 trainees, finished their last project today. They went to a SD school in the local village. The gave lessons about what is a handicap, and how to deal with a handicapped child. Our goal with this project is that our handicapped children will be more part of society. The day was a big success! Lessons in the classroom, and special games outside. The day ended with shaking hands with ariawan and sri.

* April 2008: The feet of Aldi are straight! We cast the feet of aldi for two and a half months. Aldi is a boy of 2,5 years old and is born with two clubbed feet. Aldi comes now two times in the week to high 5 to train walking! We hope that he will be able to walk in about 2 months! A training schedule and a brace for home, and the progression will go fast!

Eva & friends made a donation to the foundation. With this donation a ball/coordination/stability/tubes game equipment was made as well as a movable mirror. Great! Many thanks to Eva & Friends.

February 2008: Paola, our volunteer that is here to support us for a year, went on a short trip to Singapore. Over there, she organized a ‘Sponsor BBQ’ and raised a nice amount of money! From this money she bought tools and machinery for the toolshop! She also bought a Super scooter for Ketut, which she adjusted to fit his needs. Paola: many thanks!

February 2008: The three internship students LiKaSi: Lieke, Karin and Sylvia are going to join forces with the foundation for three months. Because there is a lack of place at the location itself, one of them will spend a month at the foundation itself and the other two work from home on various projects of the foundation. They are running a total of five projects. One of these is to set up a CBP (community based program) and giving a presentation to the people of the village with as a goal to make them aware of conditions like CP and what they mean. The hope is to get the children to be more accepted and to allow these children to be part of society.

LiKaSi have before they came to Bali, organised many fundraising events in Holland for the foundation. They raised an amazing amount! Together with High5 the idea was raised to use this amount to pay for a beautiful playground for the children of High5! We started building today. Photos will follow soon!! Lots of thanks LiKaSi!

February 2008: Many new children have been taken up by High 5. Such as a young girl that possibly has brittle bone disease. We are going to try to find out what her condition is exactly. Brandon is also new. He may have some type of rheumatism. For this child as well we will do an extensive research on his condition. Edo has developed hydrocephalus about 4 years ago. A drain was placed in his head, however, he never received any therapy. Edo cannot sit, roll or move himself. He also cannot talk. It is a true challenge for High 5 to help Edo somewhat function on his own. We will keep you updated!

February 2008: We have had a lot of visitors at the foundation. And we have received some very nice donations. Thank you very much sweet tourists!!

February 2008: Eva and Paola are great support for the foundation! Paola is the first volunteer that is here to help us for a whole year. She is an industrial designer and will aid especially the tool shop. After not even 4 days of being with the foundation, she has already designed a very nice lower leg crouch/prosthesis for Kadek Ari!

Eva, who has been an internship student and is a board member of H5R, is helping to improve the physiotherapy treatments and is busy with developing new projects for H5R that will start this year

January 2008: Dr. P.P.Besselaar, children orthopaedist of the AMC hospital in Holland, has studied the roentgen photos of Alivia and Ketut. H5R is exploring the possibilities to help these children by an operation. Dr P.P. Besselaar, thank you very much for your time. It was very nice to receive a clear explanation of the diagnostics! Conclusion for the children, for Ketut we will wait before we decide to operate or not. For Alivia we are already starting the arrangements! Hopefully we will succeed to organise the operation soon! I will keep you posted!
